Boss Lady Events - A Community For Female Business Owners

Boss Lady Events - A Community For Female Business Owners
In the beginning starting a business is all fun and games, creativity and aspirations. It’s something that excites you, keeps you working towards a goal and makes you feel like you have a purpose in life.

Flash forward five years and you’re at the office past midnight, trying to finish an order whilst sobbing after finishing the last episode of Thirteen Reasons Why * true story. You realise you haven’t had a weekend to yourself in what feels like a decade. Your nails are shitty, hands rough, and you’ve ordered Uber eats 5/7 nights this week. Go ahead, you're already thinking it. HOT MESS!  When anyone tells me “I want to start a business” I usually answer “don’t”. You need to have the drive of Katniss fighting for her life in the Hunger Games to start a business, especially in the fashion industry. In this overly saturated market, you are lucky to create a product that is considered “niche”

But I am always supportive and love seeing my friends and family chase their dreams.

My close friend Jada approached me with her idea to create a community of friends and business owners to share ideas, strategies, but most importantly provide SUPPORT! Sure Mum and Dad are always there for you, but it takes a special type of person (small business owner) to understand the everyday struggles and hurdles we must overcome to wake up in the morning and say to ourselves “I want to keep doing this”.

Jada is a young woman with big dreams. She is about to complete her Masters in Business and is buzzing with creativity. Jada and her husband run a successful pizza parlour in the western suburbs of Sydney.

I sat down with Jada and a few other inspiring women on a Sunday afternoon and exchanged industry tips, tricks and secrets over a beautifully presented high tea at The Tea Room in Sydney’s iconic Queen Victoria Building. Aside from the scrumptious cakes and sandwiches, my mouth was watering for the extent of knowledge these seriously impressive ladies were dishing out!

Interview with Jada Perfect

Is your name really ‘Jada Perfect’ or is this a nickname? (Heather told me a short version of the story, but I love it).  Haha so many people ask me that. It’s my alter ego. It started from my sister Sacha always calling me 2 Perfect when we were young. Then it grew to numerous other jokes and then kinda just stuck. Jada Perfect is my confidence,  she is my wake up call,  or the person in my head saying do better, get better, be better. We understand you have nearly finished your Masters in Business. Where did you study and what made you want to study business? I’m VERY close to finishing so hold the congrats for now haha. I’m doing my MBA through Australia institute of business. I have actually been at uni for 8 years (eeeek) I chopped and changed until I found what kept me interested - and it was business. I love to learn and I will probably study something else after my MBA. Business is so broad that’s what made me choose it. We love your digital marketing skills and how you’ve applied them to @bossladyevents and @sesamepizza .  What are your greatest strengths and skills that you deem most important for starting your own business? I have to be honest I’m not great with social media, I try and show my own personality through my posts and share what’s happening in my ‘normal’ life-  I’ve realised that’s what people respond to. I have had many businesses some successful, some unsuccessful, but the most important thing is consistency and patience. Be your alter ego DAILY,  keep posting,  don’t be shy to share embarrassing things or be vulnerable,  get yourself out there meeting like minded people and most of all ask your network around you for support. What inspired you to start your own business? I have been working since 14 and to be honest when I’ve worked for other people I always end up just taking over even when it’s not my job to! I like to lead, I want to motivate and I am a control freak so I like to have complete control of everything that’s happening! What is ‘Boss Lady Events and where did you get the idea to start it? Boss Lady Events has been inside me for numerous years now it was really just having the time and confidence to take that leap of faith and put myself out there. Boss lady Events is about women coming together to network, talk business and see how we can help each other succeed in a fun, friendly environment whether you're a small business owner, innovator, visionary, professional, influencer, superstar or just want to grow for personal development.  We can all sit together, talk, laugh and have a glass of bubbles while we share our experiences, expertise and advice for others around us. It’s about building each other up though confidence and sharing who and what we know to help each other succeed. Who is your Boss lady idol? I actually have 2.
  1. Roxy Jacenko because she is the greatest example of what a a strong work ethic is, dedication to her passion, not letting others stand in her way or get her down, she keeps pushing and she brings others around her up while still being humble, approachable and just an overall sick woman.
  2. Kris Jenner because let’s be honest she has turned her whole family in to multi million dollar walking talking superstars without a talent between them and she has pushed them all in to being successful business women.
Why do you think it’s important to have a group of other boss ladies to communicate with? It’s important because we all have bad days where we question ourselves or want to pull our hair out.  We need others around to remind us regularly,  what we are doing is good,  and that it will benefit us in the long term. To give us a kick of confidence!  Sometimes we need to hear the opinions of others who see things clearly. They are able to solve a problem within  minutes  that you have been stressing about for over a week.  A strong support network is crucial in survival, even in life - so we definitely need it in business. What do you wish to achieve with your new business? Short term I am hoping to slowly build up my networking group and get to know likeminded women. These women have a goal or dream they are currently pursuing or plan to pursue, where they can look forward to attending my events,  ask for help,  advice,  and talk openly with confidence or without judgement. Even if they  just come to listen to what others are doing with their businesses and how they are going about it. Long term I am hoping to have a large networking group of women who utilise each other and their network to improve their business and personal development. An example would be -  Im hosting a large event so I call upon all the people I know to make this happen -such as: Location owner, event stylish,  florist,  graphic designer,  social media influencers,  someone who has an item of clothing I can wear on the day. This includes accessories, shoes,  head piece, make up artist, hair dresser and  photographer.  I would also need sponsors for my goodie bag etc and these people I hope to use within the boss ladies group. This is an examples of utilising and supporting each other whilst promoting each others businesses. It’s all about helping each other and being happy to accept help in return. I promise you that!  You will be welcomed into a group of strong minded ladies, who will encourage you to believe in yourself,  who genuinely want to see you succeed in whatever it is that you do, and help you along the way. wedding-bosslady-networking-business-female-business-owner
