Brisbane Autumn Racing Wrap Up - 5 minutes with Kendall Gilding
You would have seen her as an anchor on Channel 7 4pm news, Kendall Gilding was picked as the new face for Brisbane's Autumn Racing Carnival. We were lucky enough to ask this racing beauty queen a couple of questions.
How did you become the Ambassador for Channel 7 Brisbane Autumn Racing Carnival?
Channel 7 nominates a preferred Ambassador. I was lucky enough to be their first pick.
I understand you owned a horse when you were a little girl. Have you always been into horse racing?
As a child I didn't realise how lucky I was to grow up with horses. I assumed everyone had that opportunity. It was only when I moved to Brisbane that I realised that wasn't the case. They're beautiful animals, so I love watching them race. But if I'm honest - I've always loved the fashion most and enjoying a glass of bubbles with friends. But I learnt a lot about horse racing and very quickly during the carnival. Now I’m really interested.
What was one of the hottest trends that you noticed from hobnobbing with some of Brisbane's Elite race goers?
Queensland has it's own style when it comes to fashion. Although it's a winter carnival, it's not freezing, so the choices are endless. Felt head wear was a hot trend. Lace and florals were the 'must-have' look when it came to dresses. But I think anyone who was simply 'polished' stood out!
Was there a particular weekend out of the 5 days during the Brisbane Autumn Racing Carnival that stood out for you?
Oaks Day is always my favourite - and that proved true again this year. I think it's the fashion - feminine classic, florals and lace. It's the second biggest day of the carnival, so everyone was there for a good time. The food and drinks are amazing, but you don't have the crazy crowd.
Lastly, what is your favourite thing to do in Brisbane on the weekend?
I love escaping to the beach. But if we can't get to the coast and are in Brisbane - it would be eating out! We are major foodies, so any good weekend involves going out for brekky, lunch or dinner. Trying new restaurants, experiencing live entertainment and people watching are my favourite things!
