LABELS WE LOVE: LUOM.O
One of our favourite bridal couture brands is LUOM.O. Known for its indulgence in luxury fabrics like French lace and silk satin, LUOM.O prides itself on luxury and quality. But that’s not all, behind the label is talented designer Luom Ousby, who’s unique craftsmanship sticks to keeping the experience intimate, personal and timeless.
Recently, we got the chance to talk to the bridal designer herself about her expanding brand, her recent involvement with Australian Bridal Fashion Week and her latest collection! An ambitious and passionate individual, Luom Ousby kick-started her brand in 2004 after designing her very own wedding gown and falling in love with fabric and laces. Vietnam-born and raised in New Zealand, the talented designer moved to Sydney and has since then developed a loyal following amongst many Sydney brides.“My bridal collections are never based on fashion trends. Each gown is created with such individuality, and is very personal, as it is inspired with a particular client in mind. A bride always looks for a dress that is unique and distinctive, and in touch with her personality.” “For me I think it’s more of telling a story… I love the creative process of designing and working closely with my clients. That’s what makes it so exciting for me. It is my responsibility to my clients – to make them look beautiful, and above all feel confident” From the very beginning, LUOM.O has become the destination for brides after slim-line gowns that showcase modern femininity, simplicity, sophistication put together through exceptional craftsmanship. When asked about Australian Bridal Fashion Week, she said that ABFW put LUOM.O on the Australian map of designers and gave her the opportunity to go from bridal to fashion. “It was a great platform for me to showcase my fashion and bridal collection on the runway”. Her first ABFW collection was only in 2015, and after receiving positive reviews over the “Mystical Wonderland” collection, she showcased her first ever fashion-only “PREY” collection at New York Fashion Week that same year. This year, LUOM.O was back at ABFW with a smaller 5-piece haute couture collection. When talking about her latest work, Luom Ousby was happy to elaborate. “My runway 2016 Empire collection really gave me the freedom to showcase a combination of red-carpet designs to being a fashionable vogue bride. I wanted to be more playful and edgy, and concentrated on pieces that would make a real statement. This involved designing these beautiful dramatic mesh capes worn over the gowns. My style has always had elements of fashion. You will always be able to transform any design into either black or white, and it will still look amazing. Black and white has always been the brand’s identity. You will see that in every show or collection I showcase. My finale or opening pieces will always be a black or white piece.” “I found this collection to be the most challenging of all. With a smaller collection on show, there was no room for error, and the expectations I put on myself to create each individual piece, was therefore extremely high.” So what is next for LUOM.O? “I’m not sure just yet! There is always something on the horizon. The hunger to be bigger and better is always there. Therefore, I will always look for a new challenge. Isn’t that what designing is all about?” For more information on LUOM.O go to: www.luomo.com.au Follow LUOM.O on Instagram: @luom.o Photography by George Gittany: www.facebook.com/georgegitttanyphotography
